Grade 10 Garage Sale :
Saturday Oct. 15th 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Island Oak High School
Grade 10 has started off the year with lots of plans for fundraising. One of our ideas is to hold a garage sale. Saturday Oct. 15th is the day, at the school. If you have any treasures you would like to donate we would be most grateful. Pick-up trucks are available if you have items too large to transport yourself. All donations will be gratefully accepted with proceeds going towards our grade 12 trip. Please call Lynda or Chris (class advisors) at the school if you have donations to be picked up. Thank you.
Annual General Meeting: mark your calendars!
The Annual General Meeting of the Steiner Educational Society is Oct 5, 2005 at 7:30. In the August 25th newsletter the date was printed as Oct. 3rd which is not correct, it is confirmed as Wed. Oct. 5th.
The annual general meeting of the Steiner Educational Society is a very important meeting for our school and everyone is encouraged to attend. The Treasurer will present a report from the 2004-2005 fiscal year and introduce the new budget for approval. There will also be the election of new officers for the 2005-2006 year. There are openings for the following positions:
- Secretary
- President
- Members at Large.
Adrienne Brown, Vice-President, is coordinating the nominations. If you have questions about the positions available and the process for nomination, please call her at 748-7471.
Phone directory:
The school phone directory has been distributed to the students, one per family. If students wish to have their own, the cost is 50 cents. Please note that the school phone number on the cover page is wrong!! The correct number is 701-0400. Thank you.
Medieval Banquet:
Oct 29, 6:00 pm Cobble Hill Hall
Once again we will be hosting the Medieval Banquet just in time to dress up for Halloween. We will need cooks, decorators, musicians, bartenders, people to set up and clean up. This event is great fun, and will no doubt be sold out again this year. If you would like to help please contact Lynda in the office or Lorna Lawson at 748-0734. Posters will be up and tickets ready for sale next week. This year the banquet will be at the Cobble Hill Hall. This is a fundraising event for the school, however it is also great community outreach. Last year we had many guests who saw the wonderful ads designed by Mick, arrived in wonderful costumes and had a great time.
One thing we would like to do is acquire wooden platters to use each year for dinner plates. Is there someone out there who would like to take on making rustic platters, maybe in a Saturday work party? We have a design in mind and if you think you could help with this, please contact Lynda in the office. We would also like to start to acquire a collection of goblets, for wine and ale. They do not have to be matching of course, but large (Medieval appetite size). If you have something suitable in your attic or basement or come across a good find at a garage sale or flea market any contributions would be most welcome.
If you are new to the school and wondering what this is all about, just give Lynda a call or stop in and she will be happy to fill you in on what to expect.
Bike trip to Lake Cowichan
Just for fun, on Saturday, October 15th, a number of students will be biking on the TransCanada Trail to Lake Cowichan with Hilary Walkley. We will meet at the Trans-Canada Trail near Holt Creek in Glenora (in the parking lot beside the rifle range) at 9:30 am. Bikers are to come equipped with a well-functioning bicycle and helmet, a backpack or painier to carry plenty of water, a lunch and snack, and clothing for the weather (always include raingear). A pump and bike repair equipment would also be useful things to bring. This will be an all-day bike trip with a picnic lunch along the way, returning to Duncan later in the afternoon. Please call Hilary (746-7229) if you have any questions.
Words from Camp Pringle,
Fabian Schadt (gr.9 exchange student from Germany):
We were with the whole school at Camp Pringle. Camp Pringle had boys house, a girls house, and a meeting house.l We were there for three days and we had different activities to do. We could decide between art, meditation, waterfront activities and crafts.
I was in the waterfront activities. I did sailing and windsurfing. After that, I was in art and we made lanterns out of sticks and leaves. Then, I was in meditation and we had to sit in a chair and keep our eyes closed.
These were some of the activities at Camp Pringle. The weather was okay and we had a lot of fun.
Hallo von Esther Huston (gr. 10), on exchange in Germany:
"how is everyone doing?? is everyone there causing
